Waterside Group Monorepo

Multi-tenant CMS + sites on Payload & Neon

Waterside's sites ran on a 15-year-old WordPress backbone that constantly went down. A monorepo now powers them from a shared, multi-tenant custom Payload CMS, each site on its own Neon database. Live at longfellowdesignbuild.com.

Next.js 16 · Payload CMS 3 · Neon Postgres · TypeScript · pnpm monorepo · Vercel

All of Waterside's websites ran on a 15-year-old WordPress backbone. The sites went down constantly, and the antiquated stack left no flexibility to design what the group actually wanted.

A pnpm monorepo, assembled in agentic AI coding environments, that replaced WordPress with a custom CMS built on Payload: a standalone multi-tenant Payload CMS 3 admin sits alongside per-app Next.js 16 frontends with embedded Payload, each isolated to its own Neon Postgres database. Shared UI and Payload-base packages keep collections and components DRY, with structured content modeling and seed and migration tooling, so the team designs and manages the new sites on a modern stack.

  • Next.js 16 + Payload CMS 3 with embedded admin per app
  • Multi-tenant standalone CMS plus isolated Neon Postgres per site
  • Shared workspace packages, structured content modeling, seed/migration tooling

Multiple client sites run from the shared core instead of the failing WordPress installs. Live at longfellowdesignbuild.com.
